According to the Huffington Post, a Korean film crew secretly filmed a rehearsal of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony.
The Korean news report claims that the ceremony has been prepared for over 3 years and China has spent over $300,000,000 on, what according to the Korean station, is the most “magnificent, brilliant and mysterious” ceremony in Olympic history. The report claims the video features over 10,000 performers — kung-fu fighters, trapeze artists and traditional Chinese dancers — using the “most modern of laser technology” to execute the 10-second Olympic countdown.
If this is true, I am pretty damn sure Chinese authorities are 200% pissed at the Korean news crew, and super pissed that their crack commando security forces were ineffective at stopping people from doing things that are “against the ideals of Chinese communist-capitalist glory”. Youtube currently says “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by a third party.” If you want to see the video, go here, my mad skillz don’t extend to me being able to put the video into this post. boourns!
A Beijing Olympics official said Thursday the report by South Korean broadcaster SBS, which was circulated online, was “disappointing.” Sun Weide, spokesman for Beijing’s Olympic organizing committee, would not say whether SBS would be punished, only that officials were “checking into the situation.” (IHT)
Checking into the situation eh? Wouldn’t say if SBS would be punished eh? I guarentee you this shit isn’t going to be forgotten. Guarenteed!
While most media outlets are saying the rehearsal was secretly filmed, The Daily Telegraph is reporting that IOC officials are saying the Koreans “stole” shit. What did they steal? They stole the “magic” of the opening ceremony.
“I think it is disappointing that someone comes in there and literally steals one of the most exciting moments of the Games,” Kevan Gosper, an International Olympic Committee executive board member said.
“This is a great surprise and I have not heard of this happening before.”
The Beijing Olympic organising committee was also furious, saying that the filming was unauthorised.
“We are disappointed and frustrated with the broadcast by SBS,” said committee spokesman Sun Weide.
“This matter is still under investigation.”
Security surrounding plans for the Opening Ceremony has been unprecedented.
Planners have been guarding the show’s secrets to the point of paranoia.
But it would be a coup of epic proportions for a foreign TV crew to sneak out images of the ceremony without China’s nod. (Daily Telegraph)
I for one don’t give a shit if someone went in there and filmed the ceremony. The Chinese are being such pricks about the olympics that I hope a lot goes wrong, but if I were SBS, I’d be hiring top notch sys admins and installing the very latest versions of every anti-virus software suite out there.

Now, imagine the situation was reversed. Korea was holding the Olympics and the Chinese, or any other nation for that matter, secretly filmed their opening ceremony. Protests anyone? You bet your sweet ass. Yet another, in a long string of, bad press for Korea and Koreans.
