An expensive suicide?

Yahoo News, through AFP is reporting that a Japanese woman on board a Korean Air flight from Honolulu to Fukuoka via Incheon was found hung in the bathroom of the aircraft.

When the passenger failed to return to her seat, a flight attendant checked the toilet where she found the woman hanging from the wall with a scarf around her neck.

While people use the bathroom of an airplane for a good many ‘odd’ things, this is the strangest utilization I have heard of.

“We’ve heard no suicide note was found,” a Korean Air spokesman said.

I can’t help but wonder if her death wasn’t a terrible accident. Did her scarf get caught on something while she slipped on the wet floor? I have no idea what the scene looked like, but I still wonder. At any rate, I sure do hope I don’t have to use that bathroom on any future flight, though the thought of some wacky Japaneses horror movie involving haunted airplane bathrooms did cross my mind.

There is always the chance that she thought suicide was an honorable way to atone for a crime or scandal she committed in Honolulu, or perhaps a comment on her blog told her to hang herself on the plane.
